TURNING YOUR RAYBURN ON
Models 368K & Oil Nouvelle
Never try and relight a hot cooker burner.
Wait until it has cooled down.
The water system must be filled before
lighting.

Cooker burner must be alight at all times
before the boiler burner is operated.
To light cooker burner.
1. Turn On oil supply at storage tank and any
other control valves.
2. On the Oil Control Valve (OCV) 'P'
depress the trip lever 'D' until it clicks then release. Turn cooker control
knob 'C' to the maximum setting.
3. Switch ON the external electrical supply and
turn cooker thermostat 'A' to its maximum.
4. Wait approximately 15 minutes for the oil to
enter the burner.
5. Open outer burner door 'E' and lift off the
inner door 'F'
6. On early models slide the lighting port cover
'G' open and apply a taper to light all three exposed wicks, then carefully
slide the cover closed.
7. On later models the lighting port flap 'G'
should be swung open and a light applied through the single port, to the wick.
Close flap carefully immediately.
8. Replace inner door and close the outer door.
9. Turn the cooker thermostat 'A' down to its
lowest setting for about 30 minutes, to allow the burner to warm up. The
thermostat can then be set to the desired temperature and will automatically
control the burner firing rate to maintain that temperature. The control knob
'C' should be left at maximum.
10. In the event of a power failure the burner
will return to a low fire rate. This can be overcome manually by operating the
lever 'B' on the top of the OCV, from right to left and latching it in that
position. The temperature can then be controlled manually by using the control
knob 'C' Don't forget to reset lever 'B' to normal when the electricity is
again available.
To operate the boiler burner.
1. Cooker burner must already be lit as described
above.
2. On the Oil Control Valve 'P', the knob 'J'
(where fitted) must be turned to maximum.
3. Switch ON, the electrical supply to the
Rayburn and turn ON any external controls such as a time clock or room
thermostat.
4. The boiler burner will ignite automatically
when the boiler thermostat knob 'H' is turned On to an appropriate
setting. Note that after turning it on, it will take several minutes before
flames are visible through the viewing window 'M'
5. If the boiler burner fails to ignite
automatically, after about 5 minutes the warning light at 'L' will illuminate.
Wait 3 minutes then turn the thermostat 'H' Off then immediately ON again to
restart the ignition sequence for a further attempt. If it continues to fail
after 3 attempts, leave OFF and call an engineer for assistance.
WARNING. If either of the burner
fails to ignite or operate properly; or there is a strong smell of oil or fumes;
or you are unsure if the Rayburn has been serviced recently, --- DO NOT
USE --- Have the appliance checked by a qualified engineer.
